Priessnitz wrap

Priessnitz tiles were invented by Vinzenz Priessnitz, the founder of hydrotherapy. Thanks to him, hydrotherapy procedures spread throughout Europe. Wraps that bear his name are also commonly recommended by general practitioners to their patients.

What is a Priessnitz poultice good for?

It is a cold steam compress that is applied locally to the affected area with the aim of increasing blood circulation and thereby accelerating the healing processes in the body.

It is used for a number of diseases - angina, colds, laryngitis, fever (above 38 degrees Celsius), on the chest in case of a dry irritating cough, on the joints in case of rheumatic problems, to relax the skeletal muscles and on other occasions.

It is applied not only to the neck and chest, but also to the joints (knee, shoulder, elbow...). It helps in the treatment of joint diseases, relieves joint pain, relieves hypertonicity of the muscles around the joint, and also helps in the treatment of inflammatory processes in joint structures, tendons and muscle attachments.

The wrap also improves circulation (for example, with thrombosis), works well for subcutaneous hematomas (bruises) and swelling (faster absorption), to relieve muscle tension or joint sprains or muscle contusions.

How to prepare Priessnitz poultice

First, put a cloth soaked in cold water on the skin and press it so that it fits well. Place a waterproof layer on it, for example plastic, which must extend over the wet fabric in all directions. Thanks to it, steaming will occur. The last layer is a dry fabric, for example a scarf or scarf.

With our wrapping strips, you will simplify this activity, as the products are already made on the principle of Priessnitz cladding.

In the wrapping strips, three layers of the classic Priessnitz lining are combined into one. The upper and lower parts are made of 100% cotton, the inner layer is an insulated and partially waterproof layer. An essential part is the inner soaking part, a removable insert made of 100% cotton.

Leave the pack on for at least 1 hour. The ideal duration of action is 2 to 3 hours. During the first few minutes under a cold compress, the temperature at the treatment site decreases and blood vessels constrict. This is followed by an isothermal phase, when the temperature stabilizes and blood vessels dilate over the course of 30 to 40 minutes. The last stage is local overheating at the site of action, which occurs within the next 60 to 80 minutes. After 2 to 3 hours, the dressing should be removed and its reapplication is recommended after a 3 to 4 hour break.

We can proceed in this way until the symptoms disappear.

Do not leave overnight!! The wrap must also not be applied to infected areas, poorly healing wounds, skin diseases such as eczema, and the like. In the case of applying the wrap to small children, it is better to consult a doctor first. Alternative treatment does not replace medical care.

We have also enriched the selected wraps with an inner pocket, which you can use, for example, to insert heating cherry pads, herbs, onions or other treatment-supporting substances.

The Priessnitz wrap is suitable for:

  • angina
  • fever – above 38°C
  • dry and irritating cough
  • bronchitis
  • pain in the neck
  • cold
  • joint pains - rheumatic problems
  • muscle fatigue
  • growing pains in children
  • skeletal muscle pain
  • sprain in the joints of the limbs
  • muscle contusion of the limbs
  • pharyngitis – inflammation of the pharynx
  • laryngitis - inflammation of the larynx
  • subcutaneous hematoma and swelling - faster absorption
  • thrombosis - improvement of blood circulation
